Role Overview
The Demi Chef at Malaysia Chicken Rice (MCR) supports the Chef De Partie in preparing, cooking, and presenting high-quality chicken rice, noodle dishes, and related menu items according to the restaurant’s standards. This role is ideal for a developing cook with strong foundational kitchen skills who is eager to grow and take on more responsibility in a professional kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Chef De Partie in preparing and cooking chicken rice dishes (steamed chicken, roasted chicken, rice, sauces, and sides) and noodle dishes (wanton noodle, curry mee, and others) according to MCR’s recipes and quality standards.
- Ensure all food items are prepared with consistency in taste, portion, and presentation.
- Support smooth daily kitchen operations and maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness.
- Follow proper food handling, storage, and labeling procedures in line with HALAL and local food safety regulations.
- Assist in receiving, checking, and storing kitchen supplies and ingredients.
- Properly use and maintain kitchen tools and equipment.
- Help monitor portion control and minimize food wastage.
- Work closely with team members to ensure dishes are served on time and meet customer expectations.
- Maintain a positive and cooperative attitude, supporting senior chefs in training and guiding junior kitchen helpers when required.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Demi Chef, Commis I/II, or similar position in the F&B industry.
- Basic knowledge of kitchen operations, food preparation, and hygiene practices.
- Passion for cooking, with interest or experience in Asian cuisine (especially chicken rice or local Malaysian dishes).
- Able to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Willingness to work on shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
Education & Qualifications
- Diploma/Certificate in Culinary Arts or equivalent is preferred.
- Food Handler Certificate is an advantage.
