Founded in 1987 by Lee Thiam Wah, 99 Speedmart began as a modest sundry store in Klang, Selangor. Recognizing the need for accessible and affordable daily essentials, the company rebranded to 99 Speedmart in 2000 and opened its first outlet in Batu Belah, Klang. This marked the beginning of its rapid expansion across Malaysia.  

As of 2022, 99 Speedmart operates over 2,000 outlets, making it one of Malaysia’s largest mini-market chains. The majority of these stores are located along the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, with a growing presence in Sabah and Sarawak. The company’s success is attributed to its focus on providing a wide range of products, including snacks, beverages, packaged foods, and personal care items, all at competitive prices.
